2016. unChecked.
"There is no point in which you can say, 'Well, I am successful now, I might as well take a nap.'"
-Carrie Fisher
Oh, how time flies.
And again, we are reminded of how frail life is (this is intense, I am a big fan of Carrie Fisher and George Michael) and how we, at our best, managed to NOT achieve all our previous years' resolutions.
What we are about to do in a matter of hours later today, is merely copy out last year's (I mean 2016) resolutions and rewrite it on a new sheet of a new diary or planner, bedazzle it with glitters and colorful sharpies, and hope that really, in 2017, everything will just magically materialize.
This is that time of the year, when you found out that you are not as accomplished as you set out yourself to be, because you are not as strongwilled and disciplined as you thought yourself to be.
Sadly, upon this realization, many if not all of us, feels a strong urge to defend ourselves and our actions (or inactions, in this case), happily putting blame on stress, workload, lack of time, when in fact, we lack initiatives.
2017, like age, is but a number. Our actions, however, will resonate through the course of our lives and yes, 10 or even 20 years from today, we will be facing the same enigma, asking ourselves the same questions and dreading the same answers at the end of each year, because, plainly we did not take control of our lives. Like me, writing this, and telling you that, I myself, made that mistake.
I did not learn a new language. I did not lose an ounce of fat. I did not read 2 books a week. I did not write as often as I should. I did not THIS and I did not THAT.
Of course, I can blame it on my boss giving me a hard time at work, my unstable emotions and stress level which dictates a certain medicinal prescription (this I am very sure of) or my cat for simply making my life difficult, but shifting blame from my shoulders to others' , does not mean that I am not liable for my inactions, does it?
So today, like any other day of the year, I want to be able to tell myself that I will take control of my life, and hopefully, 2017, and any of the years in my life's list can be checked.
