Weddings 101:Part 2-The WHEN and WHERE (Wedding Venues in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
Whilst getting psyched up about a wedding is normal amongst future bride, you know, panic attacks and all that, you really have to get your head together and plan wisely and precisely, the WHEN and WHERE of your wedding.
Unless you have wads of cash at your disposal and you can organize your wedding event at any dreamy venues like Paris or Bali, I suggest that you start looking into a suitable venue for the event immediately, the sooner the better.
The usual timeline for a couple to search for a venue is 6 to 12 months before wedding, no later than that or be prepared to face disappointments.
In my case, I tried sourcing for venues right after my engagement late last year( August 2016) as my wedding will be somewhere around August this year. Sourcing for venues can be exceptionally difficult for Malay couples because of the huge number of invites. I have attended some wedddings wherein the venue is sort of like a convention centres as the couples invited 2000 attendees to their wedding, no kidding! But if you intend to have intimate, small wedding, fret not, these beautiful wedding venues will serve you and your wedding guests well, and rental fees will not be as hefty as renting a convention centre.
Both me and my fiance decided that to make things simple and save on our budget, we would hold a joint persandingan event. (You see, in malay custom, wedding events are celebrated at both the bride's and the groom's different choice of venues, so that no parties/families/friends are excluded from attending due to number of pax limitations. Besides that, the practice also eliminates any unwanted frictions between both families should they have different opinion in how the event should be handled). At circa 2000 pax guests, I am guessing that I need a bigger venue. So I list down the event venues that I think will comfortably sit all those people at a time.
1. Sime Darby Convention Centre
2. Dewan Perdana Felda
3. TM Convention Centre
Of course, I am limiting my search areas to only Klang Valley, because both me and my fiance decided that we have more venue choices in Klang Valley, and it will be easier to source for other vendors here, since we both grew up in KL. Initially, we stumbled across so many other equally gorgeous wedding venues like K'Seena House in Sungai Buloh or A Park in Puchong, but as convenience remains a key for us, we tried to be rational when choosing our venue.
Although the adventurists in us wanted so much to have an outdoor wedding, we decided against it. Again, being rational here, as we don't want to be fretting about the rain and the wind during our wedding, we are indeed in hot and humid Malaysia, people.
The Key when choosing your venues:
1.Budget, always choose a venue that will not burden you and your partner financially
2. Picturesque quality that will enhance your wedding photos
3. Number of pax the venue can accomodate
4. Facilities like parking and air conditioning so that your guests are comfortable
5. Not too secluded and can be found on WAZE, if not, provide a map
6. In house venue vendors as sometimes the venues comes with strict vendor policies, if they do, do inquire on their own panel vendors, and work your way from there.
6. Weather, if you live in a place where rainy days is a daily occurence, do consider indoor wedding venues instead of an outdoor ones.
Alas, we decided on a venue, but its a hush hush for now😊
